Oct. 24--GREENVILLE -- The Greenville City Council intends to consider taking the first step Tuesday toward officially welcoming a local high-tech company into the city limits.

The Council is scheduled to conduct a public hearing and then take a vote on whether to grant a petition to annex the FSTI plant in the Industrial Park West during Tuesday's regular session, starting at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street. A work session is also scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Granting the petition, which has been filed by the company, does not automatically mean FSTI will be annexed into the city limits. The vote in favor would allow the Council to later approve a formal annexation ordinance.

FSTI, which stands for Fluid Solution Technology Incorporated is the anchor tenant of the industrial park off of U.S. Highway 380 just west of the city limits. FSTI plans to operate a salt-refining facility on the property, with 10 acres up for annexation.

FSTI is a manufacturer and distributor of chemicals to both municipalities and private enterprises such as Texas Instruments and Samsung. FSTI is building a membrane-grade salt refinery/manufacturing facility. The materials produced are commonly used in water treatment, blending, pharmaceuticals and household products.
