LAGOS, Oct. 25, 2009 (Xinhua News Agency) -- Trade and investment relations between Nigeria and Finland are to improve reasonably from next year, the Lagos based Guardian newspaper reported on Sunday, citing an official.
Sinika Koski, counselor of the conflict prevention and development in the Embassy of Finland in Abuja disclosed this at the launch of the Abloy Locks of Finland, known as a world leader in security locks manufacture.
According to Koski, the entry of the product into the Nigerian market is a precursor to the expected avalanche of Finland's export to the country as from next year.
She also said Finland was prepared to accept exports from Nigeria as part of measures to improve trade relations between both countries.
Until the entry of the Abloy Locks recently, the only known Finland's product in the market was the Nokia (NYSE:NOK) phones and accessories.
In May 2008, Nigerian Vice President Goodluck Jonathan visited Finland following an earlier trip to Nigeria by the Finish President Tarja Halonen in March of that year.
Already, some of the manufacturing companies have expressed strong interests in tapping from enormous opportunities that abound in Nigeria.
"The area of interest is in renewable energy, agriculture, oil and gas, and machinery," Koski said.
"What I know is that the companies in Finland are very much interested in Nigeria and they have already shown interest to come next year and have a follow up of the visit they have with a lot of Nigerian business people in May," she added.
