Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MSPD), a leading supplier of
semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today
announced that the company's Comcerto
customer premise equipment (CPE) processor has been selected by Hitachi
to create an ultra-low-power home gateway that features 2Gbps routing
performance with concurrent WiFi and carrier-grade Voice-over-IP (VoIP)
capabilities. Hitachi's fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) gateways are being
deployed by Japan's largest service provider in its rapidly growing FTTH
access network.
"We are pleased to have achieved this home-gateway breakthrough with
Hitachi for Japan's largest fiber access network," said Raouf Halim,
chief executive officer, Mindspeed. "Japan is the world leader in FTTH
deployment, and a key proving ground for the latest CPE advances. Our
Comcerto broadband gateway processors deliver superior CPE gateway power
efficiency that we have perfected over five generations of in-house
ARM-based development, plus robust router performance for sophisticated
broadband services. In addition, Comcerto processors provide the same
carrier-grade voice quality found in the more than 200 million voice
ports shipped to telephone carriers around the world."
"Power efficiency is increasingly critical in the broadband FTTH gateway
market, and Mindspeed's broadband gateway processor has helped Hitachi
set a new standard in power-efficient gigabit triple-play routers," said
Takeshi Masuda, executive vice president, Telecommunications and Network
Systems Division, Hitachi, Ltd. "This exciting new product for Japan's
largest fiber access network is a key strategic milestone for Hitachi,
as we continue to enable the accelerating shift toward IP-based
next-generation networks, while opening the door to future new services."
Mindspeed's Comcerto family of broadband gateway processors enables the
future digital home with sophisticated, reliable services including
broadband multimedia content delivery and high- definition (HD) voice.
The dual-core processor platform maximizes packet throughput and uses a
programmable software architecture, so that manufacturers can offer
multiple system solutions for various deployments ranging from
FTTH-based triple-play gateways to 3G/4G-routers and WiMAX integrated
access devices (IADs).
