What: Secure electronic health information exchange is not a dream for the future, it is happening now. The Social Security Administration (SSA), the Federal Health Architecture and Harris Corporation will provide perspective about the value of the Nationwide Health Information Network in improving care for citizens, providing doctors with up-to-date medical records and advancing public health. Organizations throughout the country are deploying the federally-developed CONNECT solution to participate in the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN). Attendees will hear distinct perspectives about CONNECT and learn about how CONNECT promotes the adoption and use of standards-based health IT systems. The panel will illustrate the real progress being made throughout the country - in the public and private sectors - in achieving secure health information exchange.

Who: Vish Sankaran, Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the National Coordinator, Director of the Federal Health Architecture - Mr. Sankaran will provide background about what CONNECT is and why it was developed.

Jim Borland, Special Advisor for Health IT to the Commissioner of Social Security - Mr. Borland will highlight SSA's experiences using CONNECT and its success in becoming the first federal agency to move into limited production on the NHIN CONNECT cutting the time it takes to receive disability claim records from one to two months to about 24 seconds.

Dr. Bart Harmon, Chief Medical Officer, Harris Corporation's Healthcare Solutions - Dr. Harmon will discuss the value of CONNECT from the perspective of the IT vendor community and the private sector

Brian Behlendorf, CONNECT Community Collaboration Advisor - Mr. Behlendorf will provide details about the CONNECT open source community, highlighting the participation from the feds, states, academia, vendors and care providers.
