Close call reported on LAX taxiway
Tuesday, October 27, 2009 7:27 AM

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said the incident happened Sunday when a Midwest Airlines Embraer (NYSE:ERJ) E-190 aircraft moved too far along a taxiway and too close to a Northwest Airlines Boeing (NYSE:BA) 757 jetliner taking off on LAX's south side inner runway, The Los Angeles Times reported.

One witness told the newspaper the two planes came within 15 feet of each other.

The Times said such incursions were meant to be addressed by the airport's new $83 million taxiway. LAX reportedly opened the 1.8-mile long taxiway in June after eight minor incursions were reported since last year.
