Oct. 27--Mallory Babcock, Armenia Township secretary, has some advice for motorists coming into the township.

"Don't come up thinking it's going to be a thoroughfare," she said.

According to Babcock, road closures are occurring due to the AES wind turbine project and the natural gas well drilling on Armenia Mountain.

And they can come at short notice.

"Many of our roads are being closed on a daily, sometimes hourly, basis, so residents and others need to be aware they may have to find alternate routes and/or experience delays to their destinations in the township," she said.

She noted that the closures are happening because equipment must be moved or trenches are being dug to install items like cables and pipes.

She's announcing the closures on Wiggle radio and also e-mailing people that she knows.

Babcock said there haven't been any formal complaints.

But she added, "I'm sure it catches some off guard, and I'm sure it upsets them."

Wind turbine project

As far as the wind turbine project, Matt Riel, with AES, told the supervisors at their Oct. 13 meeting that about 50 percent of the windmills are now up.

He said access roads were being narrowed down and reseeded.

EMC search

In other business, the supervisors are continuing to look for a volunteer emergency management coordinator.

For more information about the position, contact Babcock at (570) 297-5025.

Under the building and driveway permit report, Tina Avants told supervisors that she issued two permits.
