HELSINKI, Oct. 28, 2009 (Xinhua News Agency) -- Finland's Turku shipyard delivered the world's largest cruise ship Oasis of the Seas to the U.S. cruise line Royal Caribbean (NYSE:RCL) International on Wednesday after the completion of construction.
The Oasis of the Seas is 360 meters long, 66 meters wide and 72 meters high above the water level. The gross register tonnage (GRT) of the ship is 225,000. It has 16 passenger decks and over 2,700 staterooms, displacing the Independence of the Seas, which is also owned by Royal Caribbean as the world's largest passenger vessel carrying 5,400 passengers and over 2,100 crew.
The cruise ship offers passengers with seven so-called " neighborhoods" areas classified by functions, including Central Park, an open-air atrium with live trees; Boardwalk, a family- friendly amusement area; the Royal Promenade, an indoor mall-like zone with bars and shops; Sea Spa and Fitness Center, gathering different workout studios and a beauty salon; Pool and Sports Zone, featuring pool areas and places for basketball and mini-golf; Entertainment Place and Youth Zone, a space dedicated to youth activities.
The Oasis of the Seas will leave Turku for France within two days. According to Royal Caribbean International, a ticket for a week-long cruise trip on Oasis of the Seas will cost 500 to 5,000 euros (about 338 to 3,380 U.S. dollars) and the sales are quite satisfactory.
