Oct. 30--Work on River Road has been delayed as crews wait on materials to repair utility lines.
West Virginia Division of Highways spokesman Brent Walker said they hope to have the project complete in two weeks. The work was originally supposed to be finished today.
"We have run into a delay," Walker said.
Construction crews are waiting on the material to replace and restring utility lines along the road. The utility poles were damaged in last year's road slippage.
Walker said the construction crews also had some additional work at the beginning of the project. Between the time the project was bid and work started, the road slipped an additional few feet.
The portion of the road under construction sits between Lockside and Dupont roads. The road closure has created traffic headaches for vehicles trying to get to Skyview Elementary, Westwood Middle and the Morgantown Industrial park.
The road itself is not complete yet, Walker said. The surface needs to be in place before crews can come in to replace the utility lines.
The estimate is two weeks for a drivable roadway, but Walker said it could be completed sooner.
Walker said there should be some additional costs because of the delay, but the amount won't be known until work is complete. The original cost was $745,104.15, with the state paying 20 percent, or roughly $150,000. The remaining is being paid by the federal government.
