Nov. 2, 2009 (United Press International) -- The theatrical run of the Michael Jackson documentary "This Is It" has been extended through Nov. 29, Sony (NYSE:SNE) announced.

The film, which chronicles the pop icon rehearsing for a planned series of concerts shortly before his death last June, was initially scheduled to run in theaters for two weeks, starting last Wednesday.

Variety said the studio decided to extend its run through Thanksgiving weekend after it earned $101 million at the worldwide box office during its first five days in release.

It was the No. 1 movie in the United States this past weekend, taking in $21.3 million from Friday through Sunday.
