Nov. 3--MANHATTAN -- By now, Kansas State wide receiver Brandon Banks has got to be a Monday person.
That's the day the Big 12 Conference announces its player of the week awards, and Banks has been honored as the special teams performer three times this season after picking up the third award Monday.
Banks, a senior, tied a program record with 351 all-purpose yards and returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown in K-State's 42-30 loss at No. 22 Oklahoma.
It was his fourth touchdown return of the season, a Big 12 record. With one more, he will tie the Bowl Subdivision single-season record set by Tulsa's Ashlan Davis in 2004.
K-State coach Bill Snyder said Monday that Banks could potentially be better at returning kickoffs than former standouts David Allen and Darren Sproles.
Normally, when he is asked to share his thoughts on one of Banks' big returns, he chooses to spread the accolades around to the blockers.
But Banks didn't need much room to return his touchdown against Oklahoma. The Sooners kicked off to K-State's right side of the field, Banks found a hole and darted up the left sideline untouched.
"At this point in time," Snyder said, "he's certainly the fastest that we've had back there. He really does a nice job."
Following the game Banks didn't boast about his record-setting day. It was difficult for him to take value in something he did individually when his team didn't win.
But still.
"It's an honor," Banks said. "Anytime you get a record, that's fun."
MU-KSU on Versus, too -- The next two K-State home games will be on Versus, Ch. 257. Both Saturday's game against Kansas and the Nov. 14 game against Missouri will kick off at 11:30 a.m.
Associate AD named -- Jamie Vaughn has been named associate athletic director for compliance at K-State. Vaughn has been in athletics compliance for nine years at four schools, most recently Texas Tech.
