CHINA, Nov. 4, 2009 (Info-Prod Research) -- According to FDI: Novartis (NYSE:NVS) announced in Shanghai on November 2 that it will totally invest USD1b in the future 5 years to set up the global third largest R&D center to engage in the basic research and development of new drugs. The biopharmaceutical industry is one of key areas of the industrialization in top nine high-tech industries confirmed by Shanghai, so the development program of Shanghai biopharmaceutical industry has attracted numerous internationally-known pharmaceutical enterprises to establish R&D centers. At present, the established foreign-funded biopharmaceutical R&D centers in Shanghai have stood at 83 ones, accounting for 38% of the total foreign-invested R&D centers in Shanghai, with 9 ones establishing R&D centers among 12 renowned Fortune 500 enterprises.
