Deloitte, General Electric, NBC and Samsung Discuss Cost-Management Options for eDiscovery and Litigation Preparedness
Wednesday, November 04, 2009 11:02 AM

Nov. 4, 2009 (Business Wire) -- Legal IQ and IQPC will hold the 8th eDiscovery conference December 7-9, 2009 at the Altman Building in New York, NY (www.ediscoveryevent.com/main).

This conference brings together professionals involved in eDiscovery to share practical advice on the continuous challenges in e-disclosure litigation preparedness, including aligning IT with in-house and outside counsel, leveraging early case assessment tools, understanding federal rules and most importantly, cost-cutting techniques.

“Cost management really comes down to people, processes and technologies. Selecting the right people and suppliers who have the experience and can look at this effort from a very strategic standpoint; people who do the job right the first time,” says Diane Barrasso, Principal Forensic and Dispute Services for Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP, during a podcast interview with IQPC.

Also a featured speaker at the December event in New York, Diane continues: “Best practices come from significant experience, and being willing to adjust processes over time as the industry changes and technologies adjust. There’s a lot that can be done with technologies today as well, especially with respect to software used to enhance document review solutions. Making effective choices that are strongly defensible and not sloppy I think is really the ultimate goal.”

Many organizations struggle with making these effective choices, especially when dealing with the high costs, risks and challenges associated with e-disclosure. Experienced organizations including Accenture, Blue Cross Blue Shield South Carolina, Boehringer Ingelheim, General Electric, NBC Universal, Pfizer, Inc., Philips North America, Samsung Electronics America and Tyco will provide ways to weigh out the options and set a clear roadmap in addressing these issues.

The dedicated speaker faculty, which features top litigators and Magistrate Judges, will lead discussions on the following topics:

  • Determining judges’ priorities when eDiscovery conflicts arise
  • Aligning the interests of IT, in-house and outside counsel
  • Handling eDiscovery via social media sites and other new sources of electronically stored information (ESI)
  • Addressing the tension between preservation and effective data lifecycle management
  • Controlling costs by employing Early Case Assessment tools and new technologies
  • Comparing the Federal rules regarding ESI versus international laws and regulations
  • Exploring how the states have emulated Federal rules and how they differ
