Nov. 5--ONTARIO -- It may be an undeveloped parcel, but in the next 18 months construction is expected to begin for a community park on the five acres just north of Bon View Elementary School.
At Tuesday night's meeting, the council approved the master plan, which will lay out how the park will be built, said City Manager Greg Devereaux.
The first phase of South Bon View Park will be financed by General Electric Co., which has agreed to pay the city $1 million to install injection wells and a storage tank on the site. The injection wells will be used by GE to sink treated groundwater into the Chino groundwater basin, said Mark Chase, director of community and public services for Ontario.
The wells will be below ground. The only thing the community will notice is the 250,000-gallon water storage tank, which will be behind a wall.
The payments from GE will cover the cost of the first phase to build South Bon View Park.
"It certainly was a good deal for the city," Devereaux said.
Construction on the first phase is expected to start in 12 to 18 months, Chase said.
Work at that time will include curb, gutter and street improvements as well as a children's area, picnic tables, benches, restrooms and landscaping for the park.
The second phase of the project will include the construction of a baseball field, dugouts and additional lighting for the fields.
It is unknown when the second phase would begin because
funding has not been secured, Chase said.
