China wins three more golds in swimming at 3rd AIG

HANOI, Nov. 5, 2009 (Xinhua News Agency) -- The Chinese swimming team won three more gold and two bronze medals in swimming finals at the third Asian Indoor Games (AIG) here on Thursday.

In the women's 100-meter butterfly competition, Guo Fan took the lead to become the winner in 57.41 seconds.

"I am happy with the result. It is the fastest that I can do," said Guo Fan after the match.

Another Chinese swimmer Li Shuang came third in 58.20 seconds for a bronze medal in the women's 100-meter butterfly competition.

In the men's 100-meter butterfly final, Chinese Shi Feng finished the game in 50.71 seconds for a gold medal. He also brought a gold medal to China for coming first in 24.06 seconds in the men' s 50-meter backstroke competition on Thursday.

In the women's 400-meter freestyle relay, the Chinese team was third in 3:44.40.

"I am satisfied with the result today. The players played better than I had expected," said Xu Qi, Chinese swimming team leader after the match.

"Most players are very young but they performed well and demonstrated sport spirits,"said Xu.

By the press time, China has won 30 gold medals, continuing to top the gold medal tally. It is followed by host Vietnam with 24 golds and Kazakhstan with 14 golds.

The third Asian Indoor Games, running until Nov. 8, attracted 2,500 athletes from 43 countries and regions. They are competing for 242 gold medals in 21 games.

The games include indoor track and field, short course swimming, dancing, boxing, chess, shuttlecock, billiards and snooker, computer games and many others.
