Nov. 5--A second man pleaded guilty today to his part in the holdup of a South Side bank in which a teller was fatally shot.

Alton Marshall, 32, admitted that he opened fire inside the bank, wounding a security guard and a bank customer, authorities said.

The lookout, Henry Bluford, 31, pleaded guilty last month.

Authorities allege that a third defendant, David Vance, 31, fired the shot that killed Tramaine Gibson, the teller.Marshall and Bluford have agreed to testify against Vance at trial, court records show.

The robbery took place in May 2007 at the Illinois Service Federal Savings and Loan Bank at 87th Street and King Drive.

All three men were armed and wearing masks and gloves, according to the FBI. Marshall carried a 9 mm semiautomatic pistol. Vance allegedly jumped over the teller counter, pointed a MAC-10-type semiautomatic pistol and demanded that Gibson open the safe, according to the court records.

Gibson couldn't open the safe, though, and Vance allegedly shot him in the lower back before taking a cash drawer containing $6,875, the records show.

In his written plea agreement with prosecutors, Marshall admitted that he pointed a gun a security guard and took away her gun. He then fired both guns at a second security officer, injuring him and a female bank customer, according to the plea agreement.

Marshall's plea agreement calls for him to be sentenced to 20 years in prison in return for his cooperation. He could have faced nearly 30 years in prison otherwise.

The three defendants have a long list of misdemeanor and drug charges, court records show, and federal authorities said they are longtime friends and members of a gang.
