BEIJING, Nov. 6, 2009 (Xinhua News Agency) -- Beijing can expect to have 30 new pharmaceutical companies each with over 100 million yuan of annual output by the year 2012, according to experts at the ongoing Beijing International Healthcare Industry Forum 2009.

Also, the number of products each with over 100 million yuan of annual output value in the Chinese capital will increase by 30 to 40, they estimate. The combined annual output value of these products will be approximately 30 billion yuan, almost equaling to the total output value of the city's pharmaceutical industry in 2008.

Pharmaceuticals companies in Beijing reported a combined 32 billion yuan of output value in 2008, up nearly 30 percent year on year. Their profit margin averaged at 13.7 percent, ranking top in the country for six consecutive years.

Beijing hosts China's three major pharmaceutical producers: the Beijing Pharmaceutical Group, Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medical (TCM.NYSE, 600085.SH) and the China National Biotec Group.

It also has attracted global leading pharmaceutical makers, including Sanofi-aventis (NYSE:SNY) of France, Genzyme (NASDAQ:GENZ) of the US, and NovoNordisk of Germany.

Some Beijing-based pharmaceuticals are also ready to expand the global market. They have won cGMP and GMP accreditation for their manufacturing standards. Meanwhile, two safety assessment agencies have received on-site inspections by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
