CAW Members Ratify New Agreement with Waste Services (CA) Inc., in Alberta

EDMONTON, Nov. 6 /CNW/ -- CAW Local 4050 members working at Waste Services (CA) Inc. have ratified a new three-year agreement by a 64 percent margin at meetings held November 5, 2009.

"Although the results were lower than we had hoped for, the vast majority of members were in approval of what we were able to do on language changes and the monetary package," said CAW National Representative Todd Romanow.

On average, CAW members will receive an 11 percent wage increase over three years.

Waste Services provides commercial garbage services in the Edmonton and surrounding communities as well as operating a transfer station and recycling centre in Sherwood Park, Alberta. Waste Services is also the largest private provider of residential garbage pickup for the City of Edmonton and its residents.

The CAW represents approximately 162 drivers, swampers, heavy equipment operators, shop employees and recycle workers.
