Nov. 6--TOKYO -- Casio Computer Co. said Friday it will form a joint
venture with Toppan Printing Co. next year to develop and produce organic
electroluminescent displays.
The joint venture will combine Casio's display production technology and
equipment with Toppan Printing's microfabrication technology.
Casio will first set up a new firm in February to take over its display
division including around 600 employees from an organic EL display development
team and a liquid crystal panel production unit.
Casio will later sell an 80 percent stake in the new firm to Toppan
Printing. The firm will be capitalized at 400 million yen.
Organic EL displays, which are thin and consume less power, are mainly
used in mobile phones.
