Nov. 7--Emeryville-based Peet's Coffee & Tea is opening up shop at the newly redone Northgate mall.
The popular local coffee company has a space next to Chipotle Mexican Grill. The coffee shop is under construction and set to open in spring 2010.
"We're just excited that another local company has chosen to come to Northgate," said Ryan Williams, a spokesman for mall owner, Santa Monica-based Macerich Co.
"Peet's is thrilled to join the Northgate community," said Carol Mazzetti, Peet's real estate director. "We have a large following in Marin County and Northgate is the perfect venue for Peet's."
The company was founded in 1966 in Berkeley by Dutch immigrant Alfred Peet.
The $75 million transformation of the mall in Terra Linda features Swedish clothing giant H&M, BJ's Brewhouse and Kohl's department store, among others. The center's other anchors are Macy's, Sears and Century Theatres.
The 725,000-square-foot property, now simply called Northgate, is set to be unveiled next week, with some retailers opening in the spring. Its owner, Macerich, also owns The Village at Corte Madera. The mall is open during construction.
