Nov. 7--Happy Saturday. It's time for our look back at this week's headlines.

--Fuel. Members of the Edmond Planning Commission recommended rezoning property at Heartland Outdoors to allow them to sell electric cars. These low-speed vehicles can amount to significant savings in the monthly fuel budget.

I don't own an electric car but I think they are worthy of taking time to explore, since they could save me money. My wife said she wanted to go somewhere expensive for our anniversary this year, so I took her down the street to the gas station.

--Ethics. Guthrie Councilwoman Patty Hazelwood apologized in hopes of avoiding sanctions for violating the city's code of ethics after cursing and making an obscene gesture during a council meeting.

Successful people from all walks of life -- politicians, coaches, actors, even a president or two, have been accused of using salty language from time to time.

I suggest creating a swear jar where offenders have to drop in a dollar if they use inappropriate language. This could help by taking some of the pressure off already strained budgets.

--Safety. The Edmond Police Department received a $150,000 grant to present its motorcycle safety course statewide. The federal money is being awarded through the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office.

A wise person once said "well-trained reflexes are better than luck when it comes to riding a motorcycle."

Just remember to keep your bike in shape. Motorcycle boots are not made for walking.
