Nov. 7, 2009 (The Yomiuri Shimbun) -- Motoki Yoshida threw two touchdown passes and five different running backs scored on the ground as the Fujitsu Frontiers opened the X-League's newly adopted second stage with a 61-0 rout of the Nihon Unisys (NYSE:UIS) Bulls on Saturday at Kawasaki Stadium.
The Central Division champion Frontiers (6-0) amassed 552 total yards, including 344 on the ground, in overwhelming the Bulls (3-3), who finished third in the East Division in their first season in the upper tier.
In this season's new format, the top three teams in the three divisions were regrouped into three second-stage blocks, from which the four teams to advance to the playoffs will emerge.
Fujitsu can clinch a berth in the semifinals with a victory over West Division runnerup Asahi Soft Drinks on Nov. 22.
