ISLAMABAD, Nov. 8, 2009 (Kyodo News International) -- Nine people were killed and 25 injured Sunday in a suicide bomb attack on an anti-Taliban government administrator in a suburb of Peshawar, northwestern Pakistan, hospital sources and a police official said.

They said a suicide bomber blew himself up near Abdul Malik, an administrator in Matni who had organized a local force to fight the Taliban in adjoining tribal areas.

''It was a suicide attack,'' senior police official Karim Khan told reporters at the site.

Malik was injured in the incident. It was the second attempt on his life.

Doctors at the Lady Rading Hospital in Peshawar said they had received nine bodies and were treating 25 wounded people, including Malik.

Malik had gone to a livestock market in the area being set up in connection with the sacrifice of animals for the Islamic festival of Eid to celebrate the hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia later this month.

Matni is located about 25 kilometers outside of Peshawar on the Peshawar-Kohat road near the Adam Khel tribal area known for illicit arms and narcotics trading.
