Nov. 8--VALDOSTA -- An early morning crash into the Valdosta City Hall Annex left one man behind bars for various traffic violations Saturday.

Around 12:30 a.m., a Valdosta Police officer was traveling north on Lee Street when he noticed a white Ford Crown Victoria traveling south on Lee Street. The officer noted that the vehicle was going "at an extremely high rate of speed," said Valdosta Police Cmdr. Brian

Childress.

"The officer turned around in an attempt to stop the vehicle," Childress said. "However, by the time, he turned around, the Crown Victoria had already overturned, knocking over a power line and a tree. The vehicle then slid into the back wall of the City Hall annex."

Childress said that the driver then got out of the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. The officer caught the driver after a short foot chase.

Inside the vehicle, the officer located two female passengers, who were subsequently transported to South Georgia Medical Center. Childress said that their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Minor damage was done to the annex; however, the wreck did trigger the building's security alarm.

Georgia Power workers responded to the scene of the accident to disconnect the power line. They will return Monday to make necessary powers. Otherwise, no major power outage was reported in the area, Childress said.

The driver of the Crown Victoria, Antoine Green, was arrested and transported to Lowndes County Jail. His initial charges include DUI, reckless driving, disregarding a traffic control device and interference of an officer, according to the incident report.
