ISLAMABAD, Nov. 9, 2009 (Xinhua News Agency) -- Pakistan police foiled a terrorist attempt by shooting dead a would-be suicide bomber on Sunday night at a barrier in the country's capital city of Islamabad, according to local TV channel reports Monday.

Police sources said that policemen at a checkpoint, located between sectors F-11 and E-11 of Islamabad, shot dead the suicide bomber as he rushed to attack the cops after getting off a double- cabin vehicle, shouting slogans and appearing to be wearing a suicide jacket, the private channel DAWN News reported.

Deputy inspector general (DIG) of Islamabad police Bin Yameen said that two accomplices of the suicide bomber managed to escape and police have launched an elaborate hunt to capture them by raising security alert and enhancing deployment at all checkpoints in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Earlier, police spokesman Naeem said that the attacker was aged between 33 to 36 years and a suicide jacket was recovered from his body.

A series of terrorist attacks had rocked the country in recent months. At least 13 persons were killed and 43 others got injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up on Sunday morning in a busy livestock market near Peshawar, the capital city of North West Frontier Province.
