BEIJING, Nov. 9, 2009 (Xinhua News Agency) -- China's leading internet service company NetEase (NASDAQ:NTES) Inc. (NTES.NASDAQ) has issued 80,000 "security certificates" to protect the gaming accounts of World of Warcraft (WoW) players, implying the game will undergo normal operations.
The company recently said that the move is aimed at cultivating players' security awareness, and that it would adopt other such measures to protect accounts.
The move indicates that the company is confident in WoW's normal operations in spite of suspending orders from the General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP).
GAPP recently terminated the approval of WOW's expansion pack The Burning Crusade, claiming the game's operator launched the expansion prior to GAPP's completed approval.
However, China's Ministry of Culture countered that the game's operation conformed to related law and that GAPP overstepped its authority in the matter.WoW is a popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game. NetEase acquired the license to operate it on April 16, but endured a long-term suspension due to administrative approval procedures.
