Computerworld Awards Acknowledge Excellence Among EnterpriseIntelligence Technology Users

Nov. 9, 2009 (Business Wire) -- Technology teams from Discover Financial Services were named finalists for the second straight year in IDG’s Computerworld’s Enterprise Intelligence Awards Program. These awards honor companies that demonstrate best practices in the use of information technology solutions built on Teradata platforms.

Discover was one of three finalists in the “Excellence in Business Intelligence and Analytics” category. The company’s entry featured the re-engineering of Discover’s cardmember financial reporting abilities into a dynamic, flexible system that enhances analytical reporting while reducing costs.

“By using a highly scalable platform, we delivered a system that provides relevant, accurate, and timely data to help us achieve our business goals,” said Glenn Schneider, senior vice president and chief information officer at Discover. “The recognition of this effort highlights the great collaboration we have with our business partners to develop solutions that help the bottom line and position Discover for continued success.”

This marks the second time Discover has been a finalist in the two-year-old awards program. Last year, Discover won top honors in the “Integrated View of the Business” category for its Integrated Decisioning System project, which was designed to speed up the time to market for deploying business models and strategies that help the company more effectively respond to changing market conditions and more quickly gain insights into customer behavior.

“The organizations and professionals judged to be award finalists have unlocked the true value of managing today’s enterprise technology,” said Ellen Daly, senior vice president, events, for IDG Enterprise. “Enterprise technology is at the center of IT infrastructure and IT management and these finalists have shown they are on the leading edge of innovative technologies.”

The awards program is independently managed by Computerworld and sponsored by Teradata. Judges were selected from senior IT management who have received past industry awards. Other categories included “Customer Intelligence and Management,” “Government and Non-Profit,” “Industry Innovation,” and “Integrated View of the Business.”

Judges considered criteria such as strategic importance to the business, positive impact on business units, customer impact, strategic competitive advantage, financial return and measurable payback, and improved foundation for better business decisions. Winners were announced in October at the Teradata Partners User Group Conference & Expo conference in Washington, D.C.
