U.S. markets rose early Monday morning with Ford Motor Co. and General Electric getting a jump start on the week with quick gains.
Ford shares rose 4.03 percent while GE shares rose 6.24 percent following a Friday in which the Dow Jones industrial average ended the week above 10,000 points.
In early morning trading, the DJIA added 111.40 points, 1.11 percent, to 10,134.82, a high for the year. The Standard & Poor's 500 rose 13.64 or 1.28 percent to 1,082.94. The Nasdaq composite index gained 30.05 or 1.42 percent to 2,142.49.
The benchmark 10-year Treasury rose 1/32 to yield 3.49 percent.
The euro rose to $1.50 from Friday's $1.4847. Against the yen, the dollar fell to 89.835 yen from Friday's 98.96 yen.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 index rose 0.2 percent, 41.015, to 9,808.99.
