Nov. 12--The weather service has issued a flash flood watch for Guilford and surrounding counties until 9 p.m.
An additional 1 to 2 inches of rain was expected by Thursday night, which would result in rainfall totals of 4 to 7 inches, according to The National Weather Service in Raleigh.
The weather service also issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for Guilford County. That advisory, which means there could be minor flooding of poor drainage areas in Greensboro, High Point and surrounding towns, lasts until 7 p.m. Thursday.
A wind advisory remains in effect for much of central North Carolina, including Guilford, Forsyth and surrounding counties through 6 a.m. Friday.
Flood-prone areas in Greensboro include:
--Apartments in the Ashley Creek area from Merritt Drive to Holden Road, which could be flooded by North Buffalo Creek.
--Pinecroft Road and U.S. 29 area.
--Latham Road in Latham Park and the Cridland Road/West Wendover Avenue intersection.
--Roads along the creek between Westover Terrace and North Elm Street.
--Business parking lots along South Buffalo Creek and Ryan Creek.
--Old Battleground Road, which could be threatened by Horse Pen Creek.
People living near other low-lying areas near creeks and streams and areas with poor drainage should monitor water levels and be ready to take quick action.
Motorists should not drive vehicles through standing water, which is often deeper than it appears. One foot of flowing water can be strong enough to sweep a vehicle off the road.
A low pressure system off the North Carolina coast will combine with higher pressure to the north to produce strong winds. The area will have sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of between 30 and 40 mph.
The winds, coupled with saturated soils, could push down some trees and potentially knock out power.
More than 700 people were without power in Guilford County as of 1 p.m., according to Duke Energy.
In Rockingham County, more than double that number were without power. More than 100 were without power in Forsyth County.
