SUKHUMI, Abkhazia. Nov 13 (Interfax) - Moscow is interested in
promoting cooperation with the Republic of Abkhazia in tourism,
healthcare and trade projects, the Russian capital's Mayor Yury
Luzhkov said.
"There is a need to develop the potential of Abkhazia, which is
an exceptionally attractive place from the point of view of
vacations and history," Luzhkov said at a meeting with Abkhaz
President Sergei Bagapsh in Sukhumi on Friday.
However, such efforts have been plagued by delays, the Moscow
mayor said.
"Now that Russia has recognized Abkhazia's independence,
everything should become much easier," he added.
Luzhkov and Bagapsh signed an agreement on cooperation in trade,
business, science, technologies, humanitarian affairs and cultural
projects.
The document allows its signatories to establish joint ventures,
to hold exhibitions, fairs, auctions and business meetings, as well
as to set up commercial, business, cultural and information centers.
Luzhkov and Bagapsh also pledged to create a favorable
environment for mutual investment.
