Nov. 16--Smith County commissioners will discuss pursuing $120,000 in
Energy Efficiency and Conservation block grant funding today.
The court was informed of its eligibility for the money in September and
is expected to take further steps to secure the funding. The money is part of
$45 million in federal funding allocated from the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act to be distributed by the State Energy Conservation Office.
The money is available to 1,127 cities and 244 counties in Texas that did not
receive a direct allocation from the U.S. Department of Energy under the
program.
The purpose of the program is to provide funding to develop and implement
projects to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy use and fossil fuel
emissions in their communities.
The court also will officially approve the canvassing of the election
results for the city of Winona local option and the state Constitutional
amendment elections.
The court meets inside the Smith County Courthouse Annex Building, 200 E.
Ferguson St. at 9 a.m. and also will consider: -- Authorizing a resolution
declaring Tuesday as "Mothers Against Drunk Driving Tie One On for Safety Day"
in recognition of their efforts to help heighten public attention to drinking
and driving during the holiday season; -- Adopting resolutions supporting
approval of the bids for the sale of struck-off properties and authorize the
county judge to sign papers pertaining to the sale; -- Authorizing final plat
for Chris Banks Subdivision in Precinct 3; -- Approval of budget amendments
from sales of T-shirts for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation; --
Approval of budget amendments from the Texas Communities Foundation as a
donation for the cash match in applying for a grant for the evaluation of
transportation needs.
