BEIJING, Dec. 15, 2009 (Xinhua News Agency) -- China intends to nurture the development of open source software in 2011-2015, according to the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Open source software is written for public use, and its code can be freely distributed in original or modified form.

The distribution method currently accounts for a small portion of market share, and the government is expected to boost applications by offering capital and policy supports.

The ministry said open source software will be listed as a key project in the 12th Five-Year plan period (2011-2015).
