Sep. 27, 2010 (Xinhua News Agency) -- Zijin halts tin mine production after 4 dead
BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) ?C Zijin Mining Group Co., Ltd (OOTC:ZIJMY) (60189 9.SH), the country's top gold miner, halted production at a tin mine a fter 4 people dead in a dam collapse accident in south China's Guandon g province, said Monday the company in a filing to Hong Kong Stock Exc hanges.
Earlier on September 21, Zijin reported the company's Yinyan tin
mine, which built to hold tin-mining waste and was in trial productio n, collapsed after torrential rain by Typhoon Fanapi.
The Environmental Protection Department of Guangdong Province sa id on September 23 the accident hasn't caused water pollution so far t o nearby Qianpai River and Huanghua River.
This is Zijin's second accident within three months after one of
its copper mines leaked toxic waste into a river in Guangdong on July
3.
It was forced to shut the copper plant at Zijinshan on July 13 a fter the company waited nine days to reveal the accident and the leak extended later to southern Guangdong province. (Edited by Wang Li, w angle1@xinhua.org)
