The 2009 session, Chaney said, was a "major success for city government."

In other business, the commission also:

--Awarded a bid to Elza Construction to finish the parking lots at the expo center and fix the landslide on the expo center's hill. For more information see Tuesday's article in the Times-Tribune at www.thetimestribune.com

--Heard a report from Fire Department Chief Barry McDonald. McDonald told the commission that OSHA had conducted an investigation into the fire and police department's reaction to the Corbin Ice Company's ammonia leak.

McDonald said the report found that both the fire and police departments "did everything we were supposed to do by the book."

--Allowed the city manager to apply for a $17,000 Federal Economic Stimulus grant. City manager Bill Ed Cannon said the grant would buy console equipment for the city's dispatch center.

--Promoted Bruce Rains to Colonel in the police department.

--Approved the health/dental/life insurance plan with Bluegrass Health for 2009-2010.
