Allan Johnston, Head of Development for RES in Scotland, commented: "We are very pleased with the decision today; projects like Meikle Carewe will contribute to Scotland's ambitious renewable energy targets and bring significant local economic and environmental benefits. The project will bring community benefits through establishing a community fund or by improving access to Elsick Mounth Right of Way, which would see the creation of a recreational and ecological area close to the wind farm site entrance for local people and visitors."
The form of community benefit will be explored in the coming months through local consultation. RES hopes to start construction within the next 12 months and will keep the local community fully informed as this progress. Meikle Carewe Wind Farm will have an installed capacity of approximately 10 MW and will provide clean, green renewable energy equivalent to the average demand of more than 5,000 households.
