Dominion Foundation Offers $1 Million in Higher Education Grants

- Focuses on post-secondary education to develop workforce knowledge, skills

- Grants up to $50,000 each awarded for exceptional projects

-Online applications due by May 1

RICHMOND, Va., March 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Dominion Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dominion Resources (NYSE: D), is accepting applications for the Dominion Higher Educational Partnership, a competitive grant program for colleges, community colleges and post-secondary training schools.

"Students in higher education are at the cusp of tomorrow's workforce," said Virginia M. Board, managing director-Community Affairs and president of The Dominion Foundation. "It is important that their vision for the future of business and industry be supported. The grants will be for programs in business, skilled craft, engineering, environmental and technical studies, and for student-led conservation programs."

Information and the application form are available on Dominion's website at www.dom.com, keywords: higher education. The deadline for applications is May 1 and must be submitted online. Schools in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia may apply, as well as targeted localities in Maryland, New England and North Carolina.

A total of $1 million is expected to be awarded, with an average grant of about $30,000. Grants up to $50,000 will be awarded for exceptional programs, based in part on having immediate benefits for students, the campus and the community.  

The Foundation will notify applicants in early August.
