Apr. 18, 2011 (Business Wire) -- The Dayton Power and Light Company's (DP&L) energy saving programs introduced in 2009 and 2010 are reducing the consumption of electricity in the Miami Valley. DP&L's initial calculations show that business and residential customers are saving enough energy to power 24,000 homes for a year.
Lighting Discounts - Over 3.5 million discounted Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs) sold
Changing a light bulb is a quick and low cost home improvement people do all the time, but customers who switch to DP&L discounted CFLs can see a total savings of $1,252 on average (based on replacing 40 bulbs in a home). See the math.
No coupon or rebate form is required. We've made it easy for customers, by discounting select Energy Star bulbs right in the stores. A complete list of participating retailers throughout our service territory is available by calling 866-668-9581 or by visiting us online.
Appliance Recycling - Over 4,600 recycled and $115,000 provided to customers
Get paid to get rid of an old, working refrigerator or freezer with DP&L's appliance recycling program. DP&L will pick up your old appliance for free, dispose of it in an environmentally-responsible manner and send you a check for $25. Plus, customers who get rid of a second refrigerator or freezer could realize ongoing energy savings up to $150 per year.
It's easy to schedule a pick-up appointment. Customers can call 877-545-4112 or register online.
Heating and Cooling Rebates - Over 6,000 units upgraded and customers received $2.7 million in rebates
DP&L customers can receive heating and cooling rebates that range from $200 to $600, on energy-efficient systems and then save money on their bills.
HVAC rebates couldn't be simpler. Customers purchase a qualifying unit from a participating contractor and instantly receive the rebate in the form of a credit shown on the contractor's invoice. No paperwork! To find a participating contractor or for more information, call 877-230-6937 or go to our website.
Cooling Tune-Ups - Over 600 performed
Customers can save energy, save money and improve the comfort of their home with a cooling tune-up of their air conditioner or heat pump.
DP&L Certified HVAC Tune-Ups are very thorough and take longer to complete than annual maintenance tune-ups. DP&L pays participating contractors $40 - $110 per unit for the completion of each cooling tune-up, depending on the work that is completed. DP&L's payment helps compensate the contractors for their additional time; and DP&L training helps contractors provide you with a high quality tune-up.
Ultimately, the price of the tune-up is determined by the contractor so customers are encouraged to shop/call around. A list of certified contractors can be found on our site or by calling 877-230-6937.
