Today Target
Corporation (NYSE:TGT) announced flu vaccinations will be available,
with no appointments necessary, at more than 1,650 Target Pharmacy and
Target Clinic locations nationwide, beginning August 15.
As part of Target's commitment to providing guests and their families
with quality care at an affordable cost, Target
pharmacists and clinicians at Target Clinic will administer flu
shots for $25. Target Pharmacy and Target Clinic accept most major
insurance plans, which may cover the full cost of the flu vaccine. This
year's vaccine protects against three virus strains: the seasonal flu,
H1N1 and H3N2, another virus subtype that causes the flu.
"Prevention is key to staying healthy during cold and flu season, and
Target is dedicated to providing products, services and expert advice to
help our guests stay well year-round," said José Barra, senior vice
president, Health and Beauty, Target. "Getting vaccinated is an
effective way to prevent the flu, so our goal is to make it easy and
convenient for people to get their flu shot—while saving them money in
the process."
Each year as many as 65 million Americans fall victim to influenza and
flu-related complications, such as pneumonia, resulting in approximately
200,000 hospitalizations and 36,000 deaths annually, according to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Due to these risks,
the CDC recommends everyone older than 6 months receive a seasonal flu
vaccination.
Target pharmacists and clinicians at Target Clinic will administer the
vaccinations during regular pharmacy and clinic hours, including
evenings and weekends. Additionally, these healthcare professionals are
on hand to provide guests with expert cold and flu prevention advice as
well as tips for identifying symptoms, and can also help guests select
the appropriate over-the-counter solutions to meet their needs.
