Aug. 22--CHARLESTON, W.Va.-- Off Broadway Shoes, known for "designer shoes at warehouse prices," has leased space at the Charleston Town Center and plans to open on Oct. 27, said Lisa McCracken, the mall's marketing director.
"Currently boasting 65 stores across the country, Off Broadway Shoes sells most popular brands including Rockport, Cole Haan, Kenneth Cole, Bandolino, Bebe, Betsey Johnson, Sperry, Clarks, Guess, Nine West, Enzo, Franco Sarto, Jessica Simpson and many more, including all top athletic brands," McCracken said.
"The store will stock between 40,000 and 50,000 pairs of footwear, all on display and easy to find in wide aisles," she said. "Handbags and accessories will also be available."
Off Broadway Shoes is locating on the second floor, in a portion of the space Steve & Barry's vacated in late 2008.
According to the company's website, Off Broadway Shoes was established as a warehouse operation in 1989 in Nashville, just off Broadway -- one of Nashville's main thoroughfares. By the late 1990s the company had grown to nearly 20 locations stretching from New England to Florida.
The Deichmann Group, a large privately owned shoe retailer, acquired Off Broadway Shoes in 2002. Since then, Off Broadway Shoes has grown at an even faster pace. The Charleston Town Center store will be Off Broadway's first in West Virginia.
The Steve & Barry's space had been the Town Center's largest vacancy. It will be completely filled when Off Broadway Shoes moves in. As previously reported, Deb took the adjacent space. The Deb shop opened there on July 13.
So far in 2011 the mall has announced 33,000 square feet of new fashion and food retail space plus 134,286 square feet of remodeled retail space, McCracken said.
New retailers, in addition to Off Broadway Shoes, are: Bare Escentuals, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Panera Bread and TeaCo.
Remodeled space: JCPenney, Deb and Children's Place.
The Charleston Town Center has about 931,300 square feet of gross leaseable space. About 1,250 people work in the mall.
