the Best in Class Fund
BURNABY, BC, Sept. 15, 2011 /CNW/ - Best Buy Canada is awarding $200,000
in technology grants to teachers and students who are passionate about
technology in the classroom. Starting Tuesday, September 20, Canada's
fastest growing retailer of consumer electronics will begin accepting
entries for its 2011 Best in Class Fund program.
As new technology continues to take a more prominent role in our work
and personal lives, integrating it into the classroom is needed now
more than ever to prepare students for the future. Recent studies show
that the Internet is driving the creation of jobs that haven't even
been invented yet, meaning grade-school kids today need to be prepared
for roles that weren't around 10 or 20 years ago.
Preparing students for the digital world they are growing up in is a key
objective of the Best in Class Fund. Best Buy recognizes the importance
of arming students with the tools they need to navigate through the
evolving technology landscape to set them up for success in the future.
Whether it's digital cameras for a photography lab, graphic design
software for an art class or even musical instruments and recording
technology for band, it's about merging traditional learning with new
and current technology to best prepare students for their future.
Teachers will have until November 17 to submit their proposal online.
The written proposal must be 500 words or less and will address the
following: How do you plan to use the technology with your students to
inspire and enhance their education?
The Best in Class Fund program was conceived in 2008 to inspire teachers
and students to develop compelling educational projects that will
advance learning through the integration of technology in the
classroom.

The Best in Class Fund Program began in 2008 and to-date Best Buy has
donated $750,000 in technology grants to schools in Canada. The program
is open to teachers with students in kindergarten through grade 8 at
schools across Canada.
Teachers are asked to develop their written proposals that outline how
they would like to integrate various consumer electronic technologies
in the classroom and how it will provide an educational benefit, and
submit online at www.BestBuy.ca/BestinClass between September 20 and November 17, 2011. One submission is allowed
per school and it can come from a single class, or from a cross section
of teachers from the same school.
