FREEMONT, Calif., Feb. 11 (UPI) -- California electric car company Tesla Motors Inc. said it was now taking orders for a sport utility vehicle, which won't be available until 2014.

Customers can reserve a Model X electric-powered SUV for $5,000, The Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.

The price of the car has yet to be released -- the X standing for unknown.

Tesla's SUV will feature gull-wing doors that open up and out. The batteries that power the vehicle will be placed under the car, so that it is roomier in side and features two trunks -- one in the back and one under the hood.

It is designed to fit seven adults.

"Tesla is certainly taking a different approach from the established car manufacturers," said auto industry analyst Thilo Koslowski, at Gartner Inc., a research firm.
