Redesigned ms.gov Receives Warm Welcome

Wednesday, March 14, 2012 12:00 AM

Just one month since its official launch, the overhauled ms.gov has received positive constituent feedback and has experienced a significant increase in site traffic. The updated Official Website of Mississippi (http://www.ms.gov), featuring user-centric navigation and optimized content delivery, has been called "refreshing," "easy to use," and "impressive." More than 150,000 individuals from all 50 states and over 125 countries have visited the site since the launch, making use of new features including Live Chat, the Mississippi photography showcase, and social media integration. In addition, visitors utilized the enhanced search features over 14,000 times.

"The primary mission of ms.gov is to provide enhanced government information and service delivery using leading-edge, web-based technologies," said Dr. Craig Orgeron,Executive Director for the Mississippi Department of Information Technology Services. "I am very pleased that the redesign of the site has been so well received by the citizens of Mississippi."

In addition to the new look and improved functionality, the new ms.gov serves as a gateway to important government information, seasonal services and transparency initiatives. The dynamic agency and service directories enable users to quickly find desired information. Feature boxes highlighting interesting statistics about online service usage provide additional transparency about the State's eGovernment accomplishments.

The redesign of ms.gov was accomplished through a public-private partnership between Mississippi Interactive, a subsidiary of NIC (NASDAQ: EGOV), and the State of Mississippi. The development effort, valued at over $250,000, was completed at no cost to the state under a self-funded business model whereby eGovernment services and websites are designed, maintained and hosted without use of appropriations or tax dollars. The second phase of the redesign, scheduled to launch later this year, will offer additional content enrichments and feature enhancements. In addition, the upcoming free mobile applications will supplement the existing mobile-friendly website, utilized by approximately 10 percent of all ms.gov visitors, and will prove to be a valued new technical advancement to the growing smartphone user base.
