'Hunger Games' still U.S. box office champ

LOS ANGELES, April 1 (UPI) -- "The Hunger Games," based on the young adult novel, surpassed the quarter billion dollar mark in U.S. box office earnings with $61 million in weekend receipts.

The blockbuster earned has earned $251 million in just its second week of release.

"Wrath of the Titans" debuted in second place with $34.2 million and "Mirror Mirror," was third with $19 million for its opening weekend.

"21 Jump Street," a remake of the TV show with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, was fourth with $15 million in earnings its third week, while the animated "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax," featuring the voice of Danny DeVito, was fifth with $8 million in its fifth week of release.

All studio estimates of gross U.S. box office receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

"John Carter" was sixth with more $2 million; "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" seventh with $1.27 million; "Act of Valor" eighth with more than $1 million; and Eddie Murphy's comedy "A Thousand Words" was ninth with $915,000.

"Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" rounded out the Top 10 with $835,000.
