Scio Diamond - Infrastructure Comes to Life - Diamond Reactors Ready

Tuesday, April 24, 2012 8:00 AM

GREENVILLE, SC, April 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ - Scio Diamond Technology Corporation (OTC-BB: SCIO.OB) is pleased to announce that the infrastructure for its Greenville, SC production facility is complete and ready for reactor installation.  This infrastructure includes electrical backup and generation equipment, chilling capacity for thermal regulation of the reactors, HVAC and exhaust control and the specialty gas delivery system needed for diamond production. The diamond-growing reactors and support equipment arrived on site several weeks ago.

Over the next few weeks, the electrical power, process chilled water, drainage, exhaust, and gas feeds will be attached to each of the 10 growers.  The production team will then proceed through a detailed startup phase, carefully preparing the reactors before beginning production runs.  We expect to commence production on several of the reactors during our fiscal first quarter ending June 30.

"It seems like it has been forever since we started this process", said Joe Lancia, Scio's CEO,  "but it has only been since late December that our production facility has been designed, built and now turned on, ready for us to install our reactors and take them through our rigorous commissioning phase."

New Scio employees will be coming on board in May to begin production training.  Our training effort is being led by Scio's Operations and R&D team members, who have been assembled in Greenville for over a month preparing for equipment installation, startup, commissioning and initial production runs.

About SCIO Diamond

Scio Diamond will employ a patent-protected chemical vapor deposition process to produce high-quality, single-crystal diamonds in a controlled laboratory setting, with such diamonds referred to as "lab-grown" or cultivated diamonds. The diamonds are intended to have the identical chemical, physical and optical properties as diamonds found in the earth, and the company's highly controlled manufacturing process will enable it to produce very high-quality, high-purity, high volume, single-crystal colorless, near colorless and fancy colored diamonds.

Scio's technology will permit it to produce lab-grown diamond in size, color, and quality combinations that are very rare in nature.
