ADTRAN®,
Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN), a leading provider of next-generation
networking solutions, today announced its Ultra Broadband Ethernet (UBE)
services delivery solution has been awarded “Best Fixed Access Product”
by Terrapinn’s 2012 World Vendor Awards. ADTRAN’s UBE was recognized for
its innovative, unique and commercially-compelling ability to address
the needs of the booming fixed broadband market worldwide. The
solution’s revolutionary architecture enables service providers to
quickly and affordably deliver the most advanced, high-bandwidth
broadband services across the entire network. ADTRAN was honored
Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the 2012 World Vendor Awards Gala Dinner in
London.
The 2012 World Vendor Awards recognize excellence amongst the vendor
community, focusing on telecommunications hardware, software and
solutions that are fundamental in driving the advancement of global
communications. The global winners were ultimately judged for industry
impact on addressable markets, innovation, commercial benefits, as well
as ease-of-deployment and compatibility with existing equipment and
solutions.
The ADTRAN UBE architecture was uniquely developed in close cooperation
with Tier 1 carriers in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America
to deliver a unique ultra-high performance FTTH option. By driving fiber
to the Distribution Point (DP), UBE allows operators to deliver
broadband Ethernet over existing subscriber drops, dramatically reducing
the cost and time associated with deploying FTTH in high-cost locations
like MDUs or areas with buried cable plant without sacrificing
performance. Additionally, UBE’s ultra-low power consumption enables it
to leverage distributed power from the homes it serves instead of
complicated and expensive network sourced powering—a capability that is
unique to ADTRAN and a first in the market.
“In order to remain successful and competitive in the marketplace,
service providers around the world are seeking to accommodate new and
exciting high-bandwidth services and applications. Traditional FTTH has
been a successful solution for some, but limits availability in many
serving areas due to cost and deployment time constraints,” said Jay
Wilson, general manager for ADTRAN’s Carrier Networks Division. “UBE
offers service providers a flexible, scalable and cost-effective
complement to deploy an advanced, next-generation hybrid FTTH network
where revenue-generating services can be turned up in days, compared to
weeks or months.”
