Twitter to end Summify digest feature

Friday, May 25, 2012 3:51 PM

LOS ANGELES, May 25 (UPI) -- Twitter says Summify, a start-up it purchased earlier this year that aggregated top stores from social networking sites, will end its service late next month.

Summify, which gives users an e-mail digest containing the top stories pulled from their Twitter, Facebook and Google Reader accounts, will stop delivering its e-mails June 22, the Los Angeles Times reported.

On that date users will no longer be able to access their digests and their profile information will be deleted, Summify said in an e-mail to users.

"We are going to focus our efforts on making Twitter even more engaging and useful for you," the e-mail said. "While we can't get into details on what's to come, we can say that we're excited and we think you will be too."

Last week Twitter announced its own e-mail digest feature highlighting top stories from its own networks although it would not be pulling stories from users' Facebook or Google Reader accounts.

Regular Twitter users will get the digest on a weekly basis, whereas Summify users will receive it daily, just as they had with Summify's digest.

"To allow for a smooth transition for you and other Summify users with a Twitter account, we will be sending the Twitter digest to Summify users on a daily basis," Summify's e-mail said.
