Carmike to Bring New "BIGD" Enhanced Experience to Winchester Area Movie-Goers with Next Spring's Opening of the Carmike Apple Blossom 12 Entertainment Complex in the Apple Blossom Mall

Carmike Cinemas, Inc. (NASDAQ: CKEC), a leading DIGITAL cinema and 3D motion picture exhibitor, today announced the projected spring 2013 opening of a new Carmike Cinemas entertainment complex in the Apple Blossom Mall in Winchester, VA.

The new theatre, named the Apple Blossom 12, will feature twelve screens with total seating for over 2,400 guests and will be highlighted by a state-of-the-art “BIGD” auditorium, Carmike’s critically acclaimed premium theatre environment.

Commenting on the opening of Apple Blossom 12, Carmike President and CEO David Passman stated, “We’re providing the ultimate entertainment experience that centerpieces large format DIGITAL with bigger screens, bigger sound, and luxurious theatre seating for cutting-edge presentation and the definitive enjoyment of our audiences. The Apple Blossom Mall, a strategic high-traffic retail center located at the top of Virginia’s scenic Shenandoah Valley, is known for its family-friendly shopping environment. The Mall offers an exciting variety of over 95 national, regional and local retailers and eateries and Carmike’s new theatre will have an ideal location near the center court of the shopping center.

The “BIGD” Experience is expected to draw area moviegoers with its fully enhanced theatre amenities, including a wall-to-wall screen measuring over 60 feet wide and three stories tall, complete with the latest in 7.1 surround sound and DIGITAL projection of both 2D and 3D features. In technical terms, Carmike’s “BIGD” DIGITAL Experience is powered by a cutting-edge Christie Brilliant 3D flash projector that generates a light output of 30,000 lumens, creating a picture quality with noticeably higher resolution than HD.

The new environment will be further embellished by the comfort of plush leather high-back rocking seats placed for optimal viewing in a stadium-seating configuration.
