The state of Illinois has turned to Xerox
(NYSE: XRX) to support a program that helps people in need make ends
meet.
Under a five-year contract valued at $42 million with the option for a
five-year renewal, Xerox will provide the state with electronic
benefit transfer (EBT) services to distribute benefits for the
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food
stamps), as well as cash assistance on a reloadable card. The card can
be used for approved purchases at authorized retailers and ATMs.
Xerox has supported Illinois’ program since 2003 as a subcontractor and
is now the prime contractor, processing transactions, managing
interactions with retailers and ATM networks, issuing EBT cards and
providing customer support.
Xerox is a leader in EBT services, helping an estimated 20 million
people in 16 states with programs that make it simpler for recipients to
get cost-effective and convenient access to their benefits.
“We see firsthand the challenges states face. We’re able to take that
knowledge, and design programs that fit the needs of states now and into
the future,” said Nancy Collins, group president, State Enterprise
Solutions, Xerox. “For more than 15 years, EBT has been one of our many
solutions designed to lower the cost of government while improving the
ease of use of people who depend on the states’ services.”
