Imperial Oil introduces "Esso Fuel Finder" station locator application

Thursday, June 07, 2012 2:10 PM

  • Technology will help customers find fuel that helps keep engines clean
  • Provides GPS directions and retail station information
  • Available as a free download at the App Store and Android Market

CALGARY, June 7, 2012 /CNW/ - Imperial Oil introduced today the "Esso Fuel Finder" iPhone, iPod touch and Android application, which provides drivers with real-time maps, driving directions and station information for more than 1,800 Esso stations across Canada and over 9,000 Exxon and Mobil locations in the continental United States.

Esso Fuel Finder is a mobile version of the popular online station locator, available since June 2010 at essostations.com. The application uses GPS technology to identify a user's location and highlight nearby Esso stations on an interactive Google map.

"We are extremely excited to bring our customers the first apps from the Esso brand," said Andrew Mackay, retail manager, Fuels Marketing, Imperial Oil. "This technology will allow customers to easily locate an Esso station no matter where they are."

The application has an advanced filtering feature allowing users to customize which stations are displayed based on their particular requirements. Customers can select from different options, which include identifying stations with car washes or finding locations that sell diesel fuel. Additional filtering options, among others, include: Open 24 hours, full service, pay at the pump, Speedpass, and stations offering Tim Hortons.

This exciting feature will also allow customers to seek out specific services prior to their arrival, which will make their driving experience more enjoyable. The application will also include a link to the Esso Extra Program www.essoextra.com.

Finally, the application includes an "Our Gasoline" section where users can discover that all grades of our smart gasoline help clean vital engine parts by helping to remove harmful deposits from intake valves. This can lead to a smoother-running engine with lower emissions and better fuel economy as compared to gasoline meeting the minimum Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) standards. Actual benefits may vary depending on factors such as vehicle type, driving style and gasoline previously used. It's how we make gasoline work harder for you.

Imperial Oil is one of Canada's largest corporations and a leading member of the country's petroleum industry. The company is a major producer of crude oil and natural gas, Canada's largest petroleum refiner, a key petrochemical producer and a leading marketer with coast-to-coast supply and retail service station networks.
