TELUS to give up to $160,000 to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation for
paediatric oncology clinical trials
WINNIPEG, June 14, 2012 /CNW/ - TELUS announced today it will invest
more than $7 million to further expand and enhance its wireless service
in Manitoba.
"TELUS' $7 million investment will enhance our world-class wireless
network for Manitobans living and working in the province," said
Michael Sangster, TELUS vice-president. "TELUS is committed to making
investments in infrastructure and technology to better serve our
customers and communities. We are deeply grateful for the hard work and
outstanding commitment of our nearly 100 team members and retirees and
for the support of our customers."
TELUS' $7 million investment will expand and enhance its
state-of-the-art 4G wireless network, which offers manufacturer's rated
peak download speeds of up to 42 Mbps (with expected average speeds of
7 to 14 Mbps) and builds on the more than $700 million the company has
invested in technology and operations in Manitoba since 2000.
"As important as our infrastructure investments are to our success, our
commitment to local community organizations is near and dear to our
hearts. TELUS believes deeply in the symbiotic relationship between the
success of business and the welfare of our communities,"
continued Sangster. "We embrace a simple philosophy - we give where we
live - and we take great pride in the social outcomes we are helping to
realize."
As a part of this commitment, TELUS will contribute $25 on behalf of
every new smartphone customer in Winnipeg - up to $160,000 - to the
CancerCare Manitoba Foundation through the Phones for Good campaign.
The campaign will run until December 5 and will help fund paediatric
oncology clinical trials to help children with cancer receive safe
treatments.
Since 2000, the TELUS family of nearly 100 team members and retirees in
Manitoba has donated more than $1.3 million and volunteered 1,000 hours
with our hearts and our hands to community and charitable organizations
including the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba and the
University of Manitoba. Additionally, the TELUS team will contribute
more than $20,000 to local, grassroots community projects in 2012.
The capital investment disclosed in this release is consistent with
TELUS' overall capital expenditure target for 2012.
