Symetra Investment Services, Inc. (SIS), an independent broker-dealer,
will host industry leaders and investment managers from around the
country at its “Retirement Income Summit” on June 28, 2012 in Seattle.
“As traditional pensions vanish — along with their promise of a steady
stream of income for life — American consumers face the daunting task of
managing personal investment accounts to ensure their money lasts
throughout retirement,” said Richard Moran, president of SIS. “A goal of
the Summit is to bring together some of the most respected leaders in
the retirement-income space to share ideas for solution sets and
training that better prepare retirees and their financial advisors for
the challenging road ahead.”
Three industry thought leaders will address the challenges and
opportunities of the retirement-income planning landscape from a
practice management, institutional and behavioral perspective:
Francois Gadenne — Gadenne is co-founder, chairman and executive
director of the Boston-based Retirement Income Industry Association
(RIIA). Drawing members from all segments of the financial services
industry, the RIIA’s View Across the Silos perspective was
developed to help investors, distributors and manufacturers in the
financial industry transition from investment accumulation to retirement
management and income protection.
Gadenne will speak to the RIIA’s efforts to unite and leverage the
industry’s thought leadership and innovation to help drive a greater
focus on retirement income planning.
Jack Sharry — Sharry is executive vice president of Strategic
Development at LifeYield, a technology solutions provider that equips
financial advisors with solutions for managing a household's multiple
taxable and tax-advantaged accounts. Sharry has nearly 30 years
experience in financial services holding senior positions at several of
the world's leading asset management, insurance and annuity companies
and broker-dealers. He also serves as chairman of the Retirement
Solutions Committee for the Money Management Institute, the national
organization for the advisory solutions industry.
Sharry will address some of the challenges facing firms in the
retirement-income space and outline the components of a comprehensive
and successful retirement-income program.
Dan Veto — Veto is founder and managing partner of Retirement
Spark!, a research and consulting firm designed to help institutions,
their distribution partners and individuals ignite their retirement
initiatives. Veto previously was with Age Wave, where he led the
development and implementation of a proprietary research-based survey
and reporting tool designed to help financial advisors understand their
clients’ retirement needs.
Veto will focus his remarks on the implications of the new retirement
landscape—from a client perspective and in terms of the business
opportunities for firms and advisors who operate in the retirement space.
“Many companies are attempting to address the issues and challenges of
retirement-income planning, but a true solution will require
collaboration across insurance companies and practitioners, asset
managers and software firms,” said Moran. “With the Retirement Income
Summit, SIS hopes to foster and contribute to this vitally important
conversation.”
Tom Marra, president and chief executive officer of Symetra Financial
Corporation, will join Moran in facilitating a dialogue and
idea-exchange among the guest speakers and SIS partner attendees.
